Ayurvedic Counseling

Ayurveda originated in India and has been practiced around the world for thousands of years. It is often translated as “the science of life” which teaches practices for daily living in order to alleviate imbalances and prevent disease. According to Dr. David Frawley, an expert in the field, “Ayurveda’s concern is alleviating both bodily and mental diseases and promoting both physical and psychological wellbeing.” Ayurveda is a complete medical system which guides its practitioners in balancing all aspects of life through proper use of the five senses.

The basic premise of Ayurveda is to create an environment which will support and enhance one’s own natural healing ability. This approach restores balance to the individual on all levels (physical, mental and spiritual) by addressing the root causes of the imbalances rather than by simply treating symptoms. To inspire this natural capacity to heal, holistic modalities such as diet, daily lifestyle practices, herbal preparations, aroma therapy, color therapy, yoga, pranayama, and meditation are used. As Dr. Vasant Lad, the father of Ayurveda in the West explains, “Ayurveda holds that normality must be evaluated individually because every human constitution manifests its own particular and spontaneous temperament and functioning.” For this reason, each therapy is catered to the unique and specific needs of each individual ensuring the most efficient and effective results.

Mary-Alice Quinn, CAS is a practitioner of Ayurveda in the Los Angeles area. She received her certification as a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist from the California College of Ayurveda. She continues to expand her education and experience through intensives at the Ayurvedic Institute in New Mexico and as an active member of NAMA (The National Ayurvedic Medical Association). She has over three years of experience in Ayurvedic body treatments and Pancha Karma programs, combining detoxification, tonification and bliss through the power of Ayurveda.

She works one on one with clients, educating them in Ayurvedic principles and theory so that they may understand their own physiology and be empowered to positively influence their health through this practice. Clients are guided to cultivate their own practice of self healing through recommendations in Ayurvedic nutrition, proper guidelines for eating, daily living practices, and five sense therapies. She uses the wisdom of Ayurveda and the plant kingdom to devise custom herbal formulas for each client, directly addressing existing imbalances with natural medicines present in our environment. The support she provides her clients and their dedication to heal has proven to be a powerful combination in improving their quality of life, peace of mind, and overall wellbeing.

California College of Ayurveda is an internationally recognized, state-approved school which exceeds all California and National Ayurvedic educational guidelines.
