Manual Therapy/Jin Shin Do

Evan McCormick was first introduced to massage therapy while working at a free clinic in New York some twelve years ago. He was awe-struck at how hands on therapy brought such comfort to the elderly and those critically ill. Since then, he has been searching on how and why soft tissue pain expresses itself and ways it may be successfully treated. Some methods he has found successful over the years are briefly described below.

A primary focus of Evan’s work deals with how to compassionately listen to and cooperate with your own body. If you are unsure what this may mean for you, or if you have questions regarding some of the treatment methods, please call for a free phone consultation with Jessica or Melissa. Also, Evan works with all ages (infants on up) and economic circumstances- let money not become an obstacle when in need of relief.

What to keep in mind when receiving manual based therapy:

1. The body operates as a whole unit. Since the body is made up of continuous networks, it is advantageous to treat the whole in order to integrate specific areas that trouble us. In an average session we try to follow this principle by addressing misalignment and the behavior coded in our muscles. Also, it increases our quality of life when we can feel more of our body operating as a whole.

2. This approach also strongly adheres to the healing power of nature. During a session, these higher organizing functions that maintain health and guide recovery may be enhanced.

3. The musculoskeletal system is an integral part of the body and alterations within this system may contribute or limit the health of the entire organism. This may be experienced when our muscles become relaxed, the fight or flight responses become balanced, fluids flush toxins out, the intestines move waste, emotions cycle and our inner dialogue may quiet down.

Qigong therapy
This type of therapy is effective in finding and removing the root of pain. The main objectives of Qigong (pronounced; Chee-gong) therapy is to purge the body of pathogens, tonify/strengthen the organs and regulate the body’s internal energy. It has been likened to cleaning our energetic pipes; removing unwanted debris to allow us to achieve a body that is comfortable and that may move with greater ease. Qigong (Qi– life-force energy and Gong – skill) is the skillful practice of gathering, circulating and balancing our life force. Other goals of this therapy includes maintaining health, promoting longevity and preventing diseases. Qigong also consist of specific procedures that offer a safe and effective approach to get rid of damaging pathogens and years of painful emotions. This therapy adds breathing techniques with movement, visualizations and methods that encourage us to link up to our higher intentions, which may give us more power to personally achieve greater health.
